Performing Arts Center Construction to impact West Avenue South

Construction of the new Community Performing Arts Center is getting underway, and the presence of heavy equipment, delivery trucks, and construction vehicles will have some impacts on access and parking on West Avenue South between Highland Street and Maple Street. Beginning Wednesday, May 17, 2017, please avoid parking in the yellow area on the map below. If West Avenue South is closed, please use Highland, Maple and Nelson Streets and the High School's one way access road, indicated by orange arrows to access district buildings and parking lots.

May 23 - Beginning at 2:00 PM, Summer School Registration takes place online. Parents and/or students may create schedules and print them at home immediately during this window. In order to register online, each family must have a Skyward Account. Students that currently attend WASD or have attended summer school already have an account for registration. New Sousa Band in Concert Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at 7pm in Westby Fieldhouse

THE NEW SOUSA BAND will be in Westby this Wednesday night for a 7pm concert. The band is conducted by noted Sousa expert Keith Brion and they will present a 100% authentic Sousa Style Concert. The concert begins at 7pm in the Westby Fieldhouse. Tickets are only $10 and it is free to all: HS/MS Band Students, current military, Veterans and current service personnel.

Please be sure to spread the word and please attend if you can!

The New Sousa Band, begun in 1979, is a realization of director Keith Brion's dream to reincarnate the Sousa Band and once again tour America's towns and cities.

The musicians of the New Sousa Band are chosen for their ability to transmit the original style, spirit and ensemble sound of Sousa's Band. They are selected from major orchestras, military bands, university faculties and freelance musicians. The band wears authentic replicas of the original Sousa Band uniforms. Keith Brion and his New Sousa Band are officially and exclusively endorsed by John Philip Sousa, Inc., John Philip Sousa IV, President.

Keith Brion and his New Sousa Band have toured extensively in the East, Middle West and the Southeastern United States. The band made their first overseas tour to Japan in August 1996. In Nov. 1993, the band played their first theatrical engagement with a one week appearance at the Cristy Lane Theatre in Branson MO. They have appeared regularly in every section of the United States. In 2000 they were presented by the Minnesota Orchestra and in May 2002 by the Seattle Symphony. They have also appeared at the Music Man Museum in Mason City IA for the Meredith Willson birthday celebration.Mr. Brion and his band appeared in a 1986 PBS-TV special, The New Sousa Band On Stage at Wolftrap, now available as a video and as a laserdisc by Proscenium Entertainment. Excerpts from this show appear from time to time on the Classic Arts Channel. Mr. Brion has also been seen in the PBS-TV special on the American Experience "If You Knew Sousa" and is currently being seen on BBC TV in London in a new show called "Sousa in New York".

Westby Bands to Present Finale Concert Sunday, May 7th

On Sunday night, May 7, 2017 the Westby High School Concert, Symphonic and Jazz Bands will present their finale concert of the 2016-17 school year. The concert will feature many members of the Class of 2017. The concert will begin a 7:30pm and is free an open to the public. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Westby to Host UW Varsity Band Saturday, April 8 at 2 PM

On Saturday, April 8 at 2pm, the University of Wisconsin Varsity Band will make an appearance at the Westby Fieldhouse. Well known for their appearances at Camp Randall Stadium, the Kohl Center and around the Country with UW Athletic teams, the Badger Band has established a most enviable reputation of performance. Under the direction of Michael Leckrone, the band has travelled to numerous bowl games, NCAA Basketball and Hockey tournaments, parades and concerts. Westby High School Alumni including Seniors Alexis Dunnum-Trumpet and Brian Dunnum-Trombone, as well as Junior Allyson Ingles-Trombone are members of the band and will make the trip to Westby to entertain us. The concert will begin at 2pm in the Westby High School Fieldhouse. Tickets will be available at the door for $5. All current Military, service personnel, and veterans will be admitted free. Also, all Middle School and High School Band students will be admitted free. Sponsors of this event include: Royal Flush Dairy, Sleepy Hollow, Norwegian Hollow Hideaway, Campbell Family Homes, LLC, Coldwell Banker office of Garrick Olerud, Shane Peterson Realty and Legacy Grill and Pub. Westby High School Bands to Present Pre-Festival Concert

On Monday, March 6, the Westby High School Jazz, Symphonic and Concert Bands will present a "Pre-Festival" Concert. The concert will begin at 7pm in the Westby High School Gymnasium. The main focus of this concert will be to present music to be performed at music festivals in the coming months. The Jazz Band will open the concert with 3 selections and will feature many soloists. The Jazz Band will perform at a music festival at Westby on Monday, March 13. The Symphonic Band will present a varied program including Earthdance and marches by Karl King. The Concert Band will close the program with both standards by Holst and Sousa, as well as modern music by Mackey and Gallante. The Symphonic and Concert Bands will perform at a music festival at Westby on Wednesday, April 26. This concert is free and open to the public. All are encouraged to attend.

Coon Valley Elementary Annual 4K Registration Day is April 7, 2017

CVES would like to invite you to 4-K Preschool Registration on Friday, April 7th. Your child must turn 4 years old by September 1st, 2017 to attend in the fall.

This is a day for you to come to school and meet Mrs. Adam, the 4-K Preschool teacher, and the rest of our wonderful staff, check out the 4-k preschool room, register your child for school, receive information about our 4-K preschool curriculum, materials, schedules and important dates, and also learn about available community services. Your child will go through a play based screening and have the opportunity for vision and hearing tests.
