4K Schedule & Playgroup Info

4-K Schedule

The WASD 4-K program meets for 3 hours, four days a week, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday, with a playgroup for 4-K students and younger children on Wednesday mornings. A typical day includes children participating in large and small group activities and moving through different activities or centers. 

Centers may include:

Dramatic play area: Includes child sized furniture, dress up clothes, house keeping items, play food and dishes, telephones, puppets, dolls, examples of environmental print, etc. Is often changed to go along with the theme. This area helps children to develop communication, social emotional, cognitive, motor, early literacy, and expressive skills.

Blocks: Children can build and explore mathematical and problem solving concepts. Additional props such as people figures, signs, and animals are included.

Sensory tables: These are included for sensory exploration as well as cognitive development. Materials such as water, sand, corn, rice, snow, flour, and seasonal items are used to encourage measurement and comparison.

Expressive arts: A variety of art materials and musical instruments are available for the children to explore. These not only spark creativity but also help with fine motor control

Table toys and manipulatives: Puzzles, pegboards, games, lacing cards, etc. stimulate reason and logic as well as developing social skills and small muscle control.

Books, listening, writing: Language and literacy occur as part of all activities. Books, writing materials, and books on tape will be available for the children to enjoy and explore.

Technology: Age appropriate technology including computers, smartboards, and i-pads are available to help children develop cognitive, social and expressive skills.
