District Info

The Westby Area School District is located in Southwest Wisconsin, 30 miles southeast of La Crosse, Wisconsin and encompasses the communities of Westby, Coon Valley and Chaseburg. The District covers over 150 square miles in the Coulee Region of Wisconsin, also known as the Driftless Area. Never touched by glaciers, the Driftless Area is characterized by its beautiful topography - including forests, rolling farmland, and majestic valleys, or coulees, connected by world-class cold-water trout streams. Westby's most popular events include the Syttende Mai Festival, an annual three-day event held in mid-May. The festival stems from Westby's Norwegian roots, Syttende Mai, a Norwegian holiday celebrating Norway's independence. The community further celebrates its Norwegian heritage each January with the Snowflake Ski Jump Tournament in which Olympic level ski jumpers compete on a 90 meter jump in Timber Coulee. Total student enrollment in the district is approximately 1,150 which includes Westby Area High School (Grades 9-12), Westby Area Middle School (Grades 5-8), Westby Elementary School (Grades 4K-4) and Coon Valley Elementary School (Grades 4K-4).
